Who's up for CERT training in Montco?
I am currently establishing a local CERT team in my neck of the woods and have an agreement with the county emergency management department to provide an appropriate training. Free of charge for us, of course. It's going to take 7 weeks, 3 hours one night a week. All the course materials are available online at FEMA website. Please join if you are interested and planning to either be a part of your local CERT team, or start one. Or just for the hell of it. The course covers few survival topics, from small fire suppression to light search and rescue and will be educational no matter what. And it's FREE ))
The class will most likely start in 2 or 3 weeks (I'm kind of rushing there, for I want few people to be ready by the hurricane season).

Formal schpiel:
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Here is the training guide page:

I went thru CERT basic course in 3 nights at home, so now I can't wait to get it in class, that will include hands on training on small fire suppression and stuff like this.
Also, I'm looking forward to get pretty much every supplemental training.
The first class is still forming, so I don't have dates and times yet.Je suis déplorable

I'm interested.
I'm out of state on random weeks due to work so weekends (Fri-Sun) are the only days I could commit to.

Im trying to put together someting for Ambler area. County wants CERT to work as a group within small areas/municipalities. They see no use for random CERT trained folks in different places. Once you'll have 12-15 local residents interested, then arrangements can be made.
