Default .22LR or .25 for defense?

Is 22LR or .25 powerful enough for self defense. I realize .32/.380/9mm is better but is .22 or .25 good enough for a primary self defense weapon?

I actually dont think .22 mag would be a bad call, probably better than .380, .22, .25acp

.25acp is a belly gun, so would .22lr...you would need to get close enough and pump a whole mag into someone and hope for good placement of those shots or luck to hit a vital organ

Remeber 50 cent got shot 9 times haha, well i actually think the majority of those shots were .22lr...he said he didnt feel much when he was hit with the .22lr but when he got hit with the 9mm he went down...i dont know the true facts of this case but makes sense

They're better than nothing, that's about it. You're not guaranteed to stop someone with even .40 S&W or .45 ACP, certainly not if you're punching little .22 holes in them. The only people you're sure to stop are the ones who will be scared off at the sight of a gun, no matter what the caliber.

One instructor of mine has a saying that to stop someone, you need to break wires and hoses. A .22 doesn't do that very well.

What, is the Hi-point too bulky?

For a *primary self defense* weapon? Personally, no. There are so many great small pistols in 380 and 9.... Why choose the "mouse gun" calibers? What's your real question?

Besides, the smallest High Point comes in .380.....

You can't attempt to make fun of someone and mess up the spelling. Its Hi-Point. Question isn't because I'm considering carrying those caliber. It's for interest purposes and see what everyone thinks.

The Israelis use .22s for offense.

Will it work? To an extent, yes. Is either the best choice? No. But, there is always a better choice regardless. In the mob days of the 20's and 30's the 22/25/32 caliber pistols were almost the handgun of choice because they were cheap, small and easy to procure and even easier to hide. Several well placed small holes can do the job. Start watching around the 2:30 mark to see why.

My wife carries a Taurus PT22. It's her first gun and right now I am thrilled she is carrying.

Lately she has been shooting my Bersa .380 at the range and becoming more comfortable with it. I would imagine she will be moving up to carrying that soon.

The most important thing is to be armed. In our case the more effective calibers will come later.
