    Default Opinions on Ruger P89...

A local gun store has a Ruger p89 for sale for around $250. Is it worth it? Does anyone own a p89? Opinions on it?

I bought a P-85 in 88 when my unit was mobilized for Desert Shield, and used it for trade when I bought my stainless P-89D.C. in 92, after the P-85 recall was straightened-out.

The P-89's are very over-built, heavy and blocky. Hey, it's a full size old fashioned service style auto.

I had adjustable Millets installed and changed the grips. It's been my only 9mm for over twenty years and 18 > 20k rounds.
Not a target piece, but still minute of paper plate at 20 yards.

I've been halfway looking for a used P-95DC for a couple of years. They've also been discontinued, but they were the last pistol made that would share magazines with the P-89.

If you can get the case and both mags, $250 doesn't sound bad.

Yeah it comes with 2 mags and the original box. I don't really need another 9mm I'm just looking to add another gun to "the collection" and I was wondering if it was worth it. I'm still on the fence about it. A few more opinions would be nice.

i have the p95 and have shot other P series pistols. I would say that is a good price for a good gun. I have no issues with mine except it does not like herters steel case ammo.

I've heard them referred to as tree trunks with triggers which imo isn't a bad thing. I had one and it ran like a champ. I only got rid of it because I thinned out my collection when I realized I just wasn't shooting as much. I would recommend it at that price.

I bought one in '93. They're built like a tank & just about as heavy. My son has it now, but it's still going strong.

First handgun I ever bought was a P-89 DC in 1994. Still got it, upgrade some time ago to hogue grips and fiber sights. Still love it as much as the day I bought it too; big, clunky, and a blast to shoot! For $250 you can't go wrong.

^^^^ I agree and did the same with mine: Millet sights and Uncle Mike's rubber grips. These pistols are tanks. Had mine since the mid 80s and countless rounds fired without a single issue. These are not target pistols but they perform respectably at 15 yards. I still love mine. I have forgotten what the differences between the P85 and P89 are. Price sound good if it's in great condition and has two Ruger mags.

Those Rugers are sort of the 350 Chevy of handguns. They do a broad spectrum of things without drama, are not expensive, and very reliable.
