    Default Gun transfer

Hi, I am selling a gun to a friend and need to know where I can get a transfer done in the west chester area. Also how much does the transfer cost? Thanks for the help.

Well it depends on what kind of gun it is. If it is a long gun and your friend is not exempt just have him pay you and give him the rifle or shotgun. If it is a handgun it must be transferred at a FFL. The price on a transfer goes any where from 10 bucks to like 35 bucks. Gun sales etiquette says that the transferee pays any and all fees.

Thanks for the quick reply! The gun I am selling is a shot gun. Does that mean as long as my friend has a clean record I can sell it to him with out doing any kind of transfer?

That is exactly what it means!!!!!! You are sure your friend is not exempt, then you can do the sale yourself. If you are not 100% sure he is legal then go to a FFL!!!!!

Ask him flat out if there's any kind of law trouble in his past that you don't know about. It's your ass on the line as the seller. You have to be 100% sure he's legal to own it.

I disagree. You "can't know" that they buyer is a prohibited person. If by some chance they are, but the seller doesn't know, he is not legally accountable. Going to a FFL would be wise, but not necessary to meet the legal standard and remove liability from the seller.

Let's make sure this is clear...

A person may sell a firearm to an unlicensed resident (non- FFL) of his State, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law.

    [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(3) and (5), 922(d), 27 CFR 478.29 and 478.30]

I think I'd do a CYA move and do it through a FFL.
