Selective Civil Rights Prosecutions
Over the years citizens committing violations of state statutes have found themselves with a second problem, that being, prosecution by federal authorities for civil rights violations. An example might be a homicide and the feds believing there is proof of a civil rights violation in the form of depriving the victim his/her right to life, liberty et cetera.
Philadelphian Shaneen Allen, packing both pistol and LTCF issued by Pennsylvania, was stopped by NJ police for a traffic issue. Believing she was required to do so, or just being naively honest, she volunteered to the officer that she was armed. (I know...some I'm sure will opine anyone that dumb should not be armed with a pistol).
Allen has since been in jail. A defense fund has been set up with a goal of $25K. It has already reached $34K. A recent news story compared Allen's arrest and prosecution's determination to make an example of her with kid-gloves treatment of a football player cold-cocking his love interest (girl friend at the time, now his wife) and prosecution's plans to keep him out of jail. The comparison is in the form of a headline "having a gun is worse than beating your wife" or similar wording.
Where are the federal protectors of civil rights in this case? The Second Amendment to the Constitution of The United States of America prevents infringement, doesn't it? New Jersey has violated Allen's civil rights by infringing upon her rights in several ways.
The failure of federal authorities stepping in is a reason to fear the government. That is opposite what the framers wanted for us.

Am I that far off in my question?

No, in a sane world, you'd be right on. With this government, though, it will never happen. The recent ruling against Washington DC said that non-residents have 2nd Amendment rights too. The same should apply to NJ.

Look. It's NJ. There's a reason we don't go there.
