Default How to find a good gunsmith

So you look in the yellow pages and find a gunsmith listed. How do you know they're any good?

Look them up on google and see if anyone else has had experience with them.

Go to the smith talk to them about how they plan to do the work, some aren't as go with the phone as they are with their hands. As already stated the internet is a powerful tool.

Talk to more than one!. Gunsmithing is a business, but also a dieing trade IMO. You want someone who is in it with their heart, not just to make a buck. A parts replacer and a gunsmith are two different things so keep that in mind as well.

Reputation, the other is long lead times and waits. If he is backed up on work for months and months, and quotes his turnaround time as sometime later this year that you may see your gun again, that means generally he is a good 'smith swamped with work.
