What would a total gun ban look like?
Since it seems like everyone these days is pushing for more gun control I was thinking about how that would work if they ever did try to get rid of guns completely.
Would they compensate you for the market value of your gun and then confiscate it?
Outright demand to have it or face prison?
Ban further civilian sales but ownership would remain legal for what you already owned?
Certain weapons would be illegal, such as 'assault' weapons but others would remain legal?
Make ammo extremely expensive so no one would want to shoot?
Make a ban on certain weapons so that eventually all weapons of an tactical use would be phased out?
And finally what kind of political situation would have to occur for such a situation to arise?
All just personal questions I had, open responses.
I think some weapons will be banned again and I currently see rises in ammo price.

I just hope if they come for my guns they are wearing blue UN helmets. I'd hate to have to shoot American soldiers. I'd also hope the American soldier would be intelligent enough not to try

Check out what happened in Australia's gun ban! And then figure how the US goverment is going to disarm 60,000,000 gun owners in the US.

Re: What would a total gun ban look like?
They would start with a gun-ban like the Clinton/Brady ban which outlaws physical attributes. In this bill, they would also create a National Registry and give you 180 days to register your arm.
Soon there-after, they'll just have people narc'ing other citizens out for a while, then 5-10 years into it, they'd just go and collect all registered guns.
Just like the UK in 1/10 of the size of the US, it's failed. We'll just get guns through Mexico and Canada like we do our drugs."Because I'm an American." - MtnJack

Re: What would a total gun ban look like?
If they ever tried to get rid of guns completely...in one fell swope?
Personally, I think it would be bloody. I think several states would start succession movements.
And, I hope it never comes to that.
There's a pretty solid gun culture in this country and we are vocal and we do vote.
Even the anti-right's favorite whiiping boy, the erroneously called "assault rifles" are more popular now then when the 1994 ban was enacted.
I'm sure there will continue to be the Feinstein's, McCarthy's and Lautenburg's; but I expect them to make little headway in their efforts.
And, it is important for us to be aggressively optimistic. Being a doom sayer hurts the cause more then helps it. Rather then discuss what they'll take away, it's more important for us to insist legislation focuses on crime and the people who use firearms for criminal purposes.Last edited by RoyJackson; September 25th, 2007 at 06:53 AM.

If you expect compensation for a weapon that is going to be destroyed, you had better hurry up and get in line at a gun "buy-back"...
I hear you can get a really nice gift card worth about $25.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Wanna see what a total gun ban would look like? Read some UK papers, it'll give you a pretty good idea.

Re: What would a total gun ban look like?
An outright total gun ban could never happen, and they know it. So, what they are going to do is exactly what they are doing. They are going to continue to hammer away at the Second Amendment until there is virtually nothing left.
Let's hope the rest of America wakes up before it reaches that point.Last edited by Agent Smith; September 24th, 2007 at 04:51 PM.

Somebody give us the 10 minute draft on what is happening in the UK for those of us not in the know.
The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control....

Re: What would a total gun ban look like?
Sadly, it's "happening" every day.
Every time a hunter bashes a "black rifle" shooter and every time a hunter is called a "Fudd" by someone, we're helping along the anti-gun process just a bit.
There are tons of little things that eat away at our rights every day.
