deer in backyard
I live in the City of Philadelphia and I need to find a way to get the deer out of my backyard. They are eating the tomatoe plants and they don't run when you go out to chase them . My arm is sore from a previous injury and it is now worse from throwing a few rocks. I don't feel like using a weapon as there are too many homes around and even if you hit it , if it goes through , you may wind up in a nasty situation. The prudent thing is to not plant anything they eat , but I don't like concrete trees. Any sugestions , serious or humourous would be appreciated . I am assuming this the right section to post this. Thanks in advance Ed.

Re: deer in backyard
There are many repellents that work for a short time but most deer get used to them and cross over after time. We installed an electric fence around our vege garden, 7' tall and wires spaced at 6". It's the only thing the hoofed rats understand, touch and be zapped or avoid it. Oh, and I have 2 dogs a rotti and a rotti mix, they only work if they are outside all the time.

Re: deer in backyard
Buy some heavy duty fishing line (20+ pound test if possible) and make a fence out of it. The deer will walk into it and get pissed because they can't see it and then they will leave
Also insanely cheap as opposed to the price of a real fenceThe first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: deer in backyard
I was just about to make a post with the same exact title, except I'm wanting to get the deer INTO my back yard!
Now I know all I have to do is plant a few tomato plants!
I'd suggest an airsoft or BB gun. A couple little stings should discourage them.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

From : http://www.carolinacountry.com/story...ofgarden2.html
We have found that putting moth balls around and in the garden to help with the deer and rabbits eating our plants. We put them in the rows, between the plants and the smell keeps them out of the garden. When it rains we have to put more out because the rain dissolves them.
