Can't help you with Allagash, I use Pine Grove Lodge in Bingham for deer but they do bear also. When you check harvest reports, lots of bears come out of Allagash, one of the better counties. I go to New Brunswick for spring bear.

Re: Maine Bear Hunt
Allagash was good bear hunting. The Black River Outfitters were very professional, all six in the group tagged out. Got mine on Wednesday.

Re: Maine Bear Hunt
You just asked last month if anyone has used the guide service. It looks like you were successful in booking pretty late. Are they hurting for hunters or was there a last minute opening you were able to take advantage of?
Either way, congrats on a successful trip. Did you get photos?

Re: Maine Bear Hunt
MT1, no I had an invitation to join a group that goes every year. I spent the first 5 months of the year in Florida and they didn't know how to get to me.
Once we made contact things went pretty fast, I had a meeting with the group, sent in my reservation money and the rest was organizing and times to meet.
We left the morning of the 30th of Aug. We arrived 19 hrs. later and got our license at the police station in Fort Kent, bought groceries and headed to the outfitters base.
The first one in our group got his on Monday, one on Tuesday two on Wednesday, and two on Thursday.
The Guide Service was not hurting at all, we had 6 in the next camp and 5 more in another camp. Out of 19, 15 got bears.
In the week before 15 out of 17 got bears.Last edited by tarzan; September 8th, 2014 at 09:37 PM. Reason: punctuation

Re: Maine Bear Hunt
Yes everyone saw bears. Two missed their bears, and others saw sows with small cubs, or let bears walk away because of size.
I had determined to not shoot anything under two hundred, but misjudged the size and shot a 125 pound. Smaller than I would have liked, but will make great hot sausage and a fine rug.
