MAN WITH GUN ESCORTED FROM HOSPITAL BUILDING IN CENTER CITY
http://6abc.com/health/man-with-gun-...r-city/228216/
A report of a man with a gun brought police to a Thomas Jefferson University Hospital building in Center City Philadelphia Wednesday morning.
It happened at after 10:30 a.m. at the Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience at 9th and Walnut Streets.
The hospital tells Action News a family was visiting a loved one in the building and hospital personnel discovered one of the family members was carrying a gun.
It turns out the man did have a permit, but the hospital has a no weapons policy and so police were called.
Officers investigated, then escorted the man off the property.

Escorted out of the building for doing nothing wrong. Unbelievable. I'm sure the administrators saw what happened at Fitz last week. Guess they didn't want to take a chance having someone who could protect themselves in case a psycho walked in. Idiots.

Silly man, concealed means concealed, even in a supposedly "gun free" zone.

Re: MAN WITH GUN ESCORTED FROM HOSPITAL BUILDING IN CENTER CITY
Then I guess you are against carrying all together? I mean, after all, how do we know that any of them aren't the psycho?
How about your car? Would you give that up? Maybe we shouldn't let anyone drive. I mean, how do you know that driver is t drunk? Or high. Or tired?
In a free society you're innocent until proven guilty. We don't have 'thought police' (yet). You nene to give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Then be aware if who/what is going on around you. And if an individual does do something threatening then citizens should be prepared to handle the threat. Personal responsibility.Last edited by 90volts; July 30th, 2014 at 07:20 PM.

Re: MAN WITH GUN ESCORTED FROM HOSPITAL BUILDING IN CENTER CITY
I was just at Jeff on Saturday morning. I didn't notice any "No Firearms" signs...but I really didn't look for them either. If it's not obvious I'm not going out of my way to look for it.
Spent about 2 hours on the 7th floor visiting. Kept it covered to prevent just such an occurrence.

I kept mine covered when visiting my wife at UPMC Presby in Pittsburgh. Now, their ER is clearly marked "no guns" and even has guards and metal detectors. The rest of the hospital isn't so marked.
Somerset Hospital, in Somerset, Pa. is clearly marked on all entrances.

UPMC Northwest (Franklin area) requires you to enter via the emergency room entrance 'after hours'. They have guards, metal detector and no firearms policy.
During normal operating hours there are no signs that I have seen for the rest of the hospital but I did not look really close. So if you are just visiting after normal visiting hours, you have to disarm. It is you. You have all the weapons that you need. Now fight. --Sucker Punch

Re: MAN WITH GUN ESCORTED FROM HOSPITAL BUILDING IN CENTER CITY
The big issue you might have is if it is a "mental hospital." Of course it is unclear as to what that implies. Does a hospital with a mental ward qualify as such? What about the entire hospital, or is it just the ward?
This is from handgunlaw.us: Title 18 Subchapter B
§ 5122. Weapons or Implements for Escape. (a) Offenses Defined.—
(1) A person commits a misdemeanor of the first degree if he unlawfully introduces within a detention facility, correctional institution or mental hospital, or unlawfully provides an inmate thereof with any weapon, tool, implement, or other thing which may be used for escape.
Note: I can’t find a definition of a Mental Hospital in PA law. Be aware that many hospitals may have a mental ward. Would it just be the mental ward or the whole hospital? Use caution.
