excellent 7.62X39 load.
People told me you couldnt develop a good load for an SKS... well they were wrong. Ive been working on this load for awhile and I would call this a successful result. This load was developed for a Yugo M56/66. Load produces just under an inch @100 yards with tech reciever sight. But thats not all. I shoot silhouette match at atglen and took the rifle out to the range and was able to consistently hit all animals including the ram @500 meters with this load off the bench. Impressive for a rifle that everyone said couldnt be used fot a target rifle doo to poor accuracy. Anyways, I figured I would share the data.
7.62X39
Hornady 123 g. V-Max #3142G
28.5 grains AA 2015 BR
Fed 210
COL 2.220
This is a max load use with caution. I am showing no pressure signs wigh this load in my rifle.
Enjoy.Last edited by shawnmmckenna; August 10th, 2014 at 08:02 AM.

I'm not a reloader but I am also not the slightest bit surprised you managed to work up a good 7.62x39 load with a quality bullet and some time and patience. Good work.
What is your holdover at 500?

Re: excellent 7.62X39 load.
I havent done the math yet but average drop for the round @500 is about 120 inches. People didnt say the roundcwas inaccurate, moreso that the rifle was inherrently inaccurate. This rifle has proven otherwise... I am going to plug in all the data from the chrono and come up with a ballistic chart.

Re: excellent 7.62X39 load.
I had an average velocity of 2550, and when factoring in all of the other factors my bullet drop was approximately 80 inches. The round does not have the power to knock down steel rams at 500 meters though. I will have to try a heavier bullet for that range, or a bullet with more solid construction than the vmax.
