''Japanese invent car that runs solely on water"
Friday, June 13: Tired of petrol prices rising daily at the pump? A Japanese company has invented an electric-powered, and environmentally friendly, car that it says runs solely on water.
Genepax unveiled the car in the western city of Osaka on Thursday, saying that a litre of any kind of water -- rain, river or sea -- was all you needed to get the engine going for about an hour at a speed of 80 km.
"The car will continue to run as long as you have a bottle of water to top up from time to time," Genepax CEO Kiyoshi Hirasawa told local broadcaster TV Tokyo.
"It does not require you to build up an infrastructure to recharge your batteries, which is usually the case for most electric cars," he added.
Once the water is poured into the tank at the back of the car, the a generator breaks it down and uses it to create electrical power, TV Tokyo said.
Whether the car makes it into showrooms remains to be seen. Genepax said it had just applied for a patent and is hoping to collaborate with Japanese auto manufacturers in the future.
Most big automakers, meanwhile, are working on fuel.

Just read about microbes that eat junk and excrete petrol, too.
Why aren't all of these technologies coming to fruition even if only on the hobby scale, made by rich people?

Hydrogen generator.
I made one for a school project once, although in a much less involved form. Same basic principal. Glad it's happening. Wonder what it will cost.

And you need to learn to open your eyes before you open your mouth. Scientists have been working with/on Hydrogen based engines for years now. Now a little bit from science class for you, Q: What is the scientific name of water? A: H2O which is 2 parts HYDROGEN and 1 part Oxygen. As far as I know the design has always been to be able to fill your fuel tank with your garden hose, then have the fuel system or engine split the oxygen from the hydrogen, there for having a hydrogen engine with a primary fuel source as/of water. This method eliminates the need for costly hydrogen dispensing fuel stations, and dramatically reduces fuel costs.

My eyes were open during my chemistry class. Perhaps yours weren't.

Q: How exactly does the engine (or anyone) "split the oxygen from the hydrogen?"
A: One has to supply ENERGY to sever the bonds holding the H2 and the O together.
Q: If you have to supply energy to split the Hydrogen and the Oxygen apart, and you get energy when you burn and recombine them, what's the result?
A: The result is there's no free lunch, and you spend as much or more energy splitting the water molecule as in recombining it, so a "water engine" is just another perpetual motion machine -- i.e., a hoax.
This is basic stuff, guy.

Re: ''Japanese invent car that runs solely on water"
catalyst anyone?
A catalyst is a chemical compound that acts to speed up a reaction, but in the process is not itself changed. Therefore the catalyst, at the end of the reaction, is free to act again to assist another reactant through the reaction.
Catalysts work by lowering the energy barrier between the reactants and the products. In this case:
2H2O + ENERGY = 2H2 + O2
where it normally takes a tremendous amount of energy to convert reactants to products - the addition of a catalyst can decrease the amount of energy required and therefore speed the reaction up!
