    Default Looking for a high-capacity 45ACP

I'm considering the purchase of a high-capacity 45acp pistol and I'm leaning toward a Springfield Armory XDm 4.5". Don't care for the plain sights on the 5" model; I like the 3-dot system on the 4.5" better. This will not be used for competition; strictly home defense. Any thoughts?

Not sure what info you are looking for. Have you shot an XDm? If not, go to a range and rent one. While you are there, shoot a Glock 21. FN makes a "high capacity" .45 as well (FNP), but the aftermarket parts support is weak, and the mags are expensive. Plus, it's DA/SA and that action isn't for everyone.
I prefer the G21. Good luck!

A glock 30 may not be high capacity, but extra G21 mags sure do help!
    ...and they have a plan...

What I'm looking for is anyone's opinion, up or down, on the XDm, or recommendations for an alternate pistol that compares with it. I already have an XDs 9mm and I'm pleased with it and accustomed to the controls. I've handled the XDm at the local Field & Stream store in Cranberry township and liked the feel, but haven't fired one yet. Frankly, I haven't fired a 45 since my service days, and that was a loooong time ago. But I'm ready to go to one now.

I'm going to define "high-capacity" as more than 10 rounds.

    Check out:

    1) Glock 21/21SF
    2) EAA K2
    3) FN FNX-45
    4) Master Piece MPA10T
    5) Springfield XD
    6) Springfield XDM
    7) HK USP .45acp

If you want more than 8 rounds (but 10 or less) then check out:

    1) S&W M&P 45
    2) Ruger SR45
    3) 1911 .45acp w/ 10 round mags (see Chip McCormick)
    4) Glock 30/30SF/30S
    5) EAA Full Sized Witness (steel frame)
    6) EAA Full Sized Witness (Polymer Frame)
    7) Sig P227
    8) Various HK .45acp pistols

I attached links to pistols that are not often talked about.

I have an XDM 40 and I like it a lot. Shoots great and feels great in my hand too.

I also have a SAR K2. It's a CZ75 copy in .45ACP. Kinda on the larger side and heavy, but same ergonomics as a CZ and it's a friggin tack driver. All steel with a 14 round mag. You can buffalo whip the bad guys with it too if you run out of ammo. You can still find them for under $500 if you shop around. It's one of my favorites.

The newer ones don't have the billboard sized rollmark on the slide like the one on Buds does.

If you're familiar with the XDm in 9mm then one in .45 would be a good choice, unless of course, you want something different. If that's the case, look at the G21. I've used one quite a bit with a TLR 1 attached & always liked it.

Two choices Double stack or extended single stack. You need to decide what fits your hand best. You can have a 20 round double stack mag and can not hit anything. But with a ten round single stack hit consistently.

Sights can be changed. Figure out what fits your hand best. Learn how to drop a mag and insert a new one. If you need to shoot at an intruder in your home 20 times you may not be a gun guy.

Have any of you shot the P227 yet... not exactly "Hi-Cap" with a 10 round mag vs. the 8 round in the P220. Just curious since it hasn't been mentioned yet.
