Re: Looking for a new 9mm
Since I agree with you on Glocks (they look like zip guns we made from 2x4s as a kid), and since no one has mentioned it . . . take a look at the CZ75 lineup.
My first pistol was an M&P9FS - it felt great in my hand. But I was never satisfied with how it shot at the range. Part of it is perhaps the trigger, but even with a laser from a rest I thought something could do better.
So I got a CZ75B and, if you care about shooting, the CZ shoots rings around the M&P. Liked it so much I added a low-end Redhead 20ga shotgun, and a CZ750 Sniper 308. They all just flat out shoot well.
Which is the point after all

I agree with those posters who have mentioned the SR9c. I have one and love it. It's a great little gun if you don't mind the traffic cone sized loaded chamber indicator.
Also, the OP mentions not necessarily small, OWB, and a budget of ~$600. Have you though of getting something full sized? If yes, the Beretta 92 series are excellent guns. Personally, I have an M9, and I love it.

Re: Looking for a new 9mm
You can buy 2 Hi-Point CP9's and $200 of ammo for that budget. Double pistols are always more effective in gun fights

Re: Looking for a new 9mm
For the budget you have your options are pretty good. Don't rule out used stuff, you will find some smokin deals on practically new guns and save a bunch for ammo and holsters.
I had a cz75 and loved it shot great and all that. It's heavy for EDC and holster options aren't the best. The beretta pistols are great but definitely big so be sure of what the intended purpose is of your pistol, the px4 storms are nice and feel great in the hand but I don't like the subcompact at all, it's like holding a Volkswagen. If carry is the main focus I would say a little smaller would benefit you. You don't need to go with subcompact guns but something like an m&p9c which is only slightly smaller than a glock 19 and larger than a 26 would be nice. The xdm line up is also nice for size they do weigh a smidge more but not much and their sight picture is very easy to pick up.
I stay away from most sig guns just cause of the weight but I do like them a lot. I'm not a huge fan of the polymer sigs or the real small ones either.
If you are not looking for any specific caliber look at 1911's in 4-5" versions but they will be heavier like the CZ but they do pack the .45 punch which is nice.
Shop around and manhandle some different ones. I believe there are a few gun shows this weekend, not that they're good for much, but you will be able to walk around one place and feel and handle everything all together to get an idea of what is your best option. Make some comparisons and take your time with an informed decision. Try not to listen to the gun counter folks too much; hear what they say but remember they're selling guns for a living some just push certain ones based in their preference and you may end up buying something and then not like it or shoot it well.
All in all I think if you stay with some of the respected manufacturers you will find one that fits the bill. Good luck and let us know what you get. We all love gun porn!!!Last edited by *Klutch*; July 4th, 2014 at 08:41 AM.

Pre-owned 9mm P229. Not a DAK though.
