Ephrata question.....

My searches have turned up nothing so I'm hoping some one here has the answer:

on Main Street in Ephrata (more or less across from the old train station), there is a stairway going down, that is now cordoned off. What are/were these stairs to?

Are they near where the Police department used to be? If so, there was a bowling ally down there.

not sure where the Police station used to be. I know there is a bowling alley in the basement of the old D&E bldg. but that is up the street a ways.

Ok, then that's not where I'm thinking. The old PD was right above that bowling ally. But that was quite a while ago.

Way back it was a bar, then for a while it was a coffee house, now its where I store the bodies while the kitty litter does it's trick.

Public bathrooms? York had some on the center square ghat were underground, and I'm sure many other local communities had them as well.

No, Ephrata covered it's underground bathrooms when they changed the sidewalks over to brick

The bar was the brass rail, a real dive but you always had free entertainment with the drunks.

thanks for clearing that up. I wonder who owns it now? Ephrata could use a good local dive espeicially since the Edgewater closed.
