The Dynamic Focus® Shooting Program is an Intuitive shooting program designed to help the student be more Efficient with a defensive firearm in the context of a Dynamic Critical Incident.

This course is for the novice or the experienced concealed carry or open carry person. Weather you bought your holster last night or have been to the range or other courses and have presented the firearm from the holster, this course is for you. We will increase your confidence level, competence level and comfort level with your defensive firearm. The way we gradually progress through the necessary skills and build on them before moving to the next higher level is part of the skill development cycle that we incorporate into our courses.

    Lateral Motion
The Balance of Speed & Precision

    Non-Diagnostic Linear Malfunction Clearing
Shooting in Motion (When, How & Why)

The Dynamic Focus® Shooting Course is not designed to make you the best shooter you can be on the range, rather its goal is to help you quickly develop fundamental skills that you can apply in a worst case scenario defensive shooting situation.

DFS is based on years of constantly evolving information about how the body works and what really happens during Dynamic Critical Incidents and has been heavily influenced by the diverse group of instructors that are certified to teach it and the thousands of students who have been through courses all around the world. The program features a variety of specialty drills and training methods that the student will be able to utilize in the their own practice after the course in order to continue to develop their abilities.

Students will fire between 1000-1200 rounds.

    What is Dynamic Focus Shooting?

Dynamic Focus Shooting is an intuitive shooting program designed to help the student become a more efficient shooter in the context of a Dynamic Critical Incident. This is not a marksmanship course, nor is it designed to accentuate skills that only work well on a square range in front of paper targets.Unlike many traditional programs, DFS does not take a purely mechanical approach to shooting training in isolation from the context in which the skill must be used. DFS is not simply "point shooting," it is a training methodology that leads to more efficient defensive shooting skill.

For decades, combat shooters have known (and progressive trainers have acknowledged) that the human body and mind have predictable, instinctive responses to surprise and lethal threats. While the basics of weapons handling and marksmanship are important skills for all shooters, they are not the basis for success during most lethal encounters involving the defensive use of a handgun.

Dynamic Focus Shooting is being taught by certified instructors around the United States and Europe. DFS has been successfully integrated into various military and law enforcement training programs and is the most efficient way for anyone interested defensive firearms skills to develop their abilities.

"I recently attended the 2 day Dynamic/Combat Focus Shooting course presented by IDS. Prior the course, I had minimal/no experience with drawing from a holster. I was nervous. Evan and his staff did an excellent job in presenting the course and progressively building the drills which enabled the attendees to gain confidence and apply the learned drill. I have gained unfathomable confidence and efficiency in the use of my defensive firearm, specifically in the context of a dynamic critical incident. Of course, it is not a "required" course for anyone who chooses to conceal carry, however, it should be strongly recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of the exhilarating two days. As Evan says "It is not another tool for your toolbox", it is information and training for what could be the most critical few seconds of your life. After 1,200+ rounds of reloaded magazines and blistered hands, I would do it again....and again in a heartbeat.

    Excellent course....excellent instructors.....thank you IDS."

"I recently took the 2 day Combat Focus Shooting course from IDS. I've only been pistol shooting for about 2 years, and was apprehensive about taking the course due to watching the online videos on CFS and seeing the movement and drawing from a holster, which I had not done before. Evan and his instructors are dedicated to the safety of their students and it is evident that Evan not only knows the content, but lives by it also. After going through some of the exercises on the first day I was completely at ease with the program, they will push your limits, but not to the point of being unsafe. Had a blast and left with confidence that I can concealed carry and protect myself and my family in a dynamic critical incident. I would recommend this course to anyone who has or plans on having a pistol for self defense or concealed carry."

"I recently participated in the Fundamentals of Combat Focus Shooting course with Evan and Derek. I have to say that I was thoroughly satisfied with their professionalism and level of knowledge. Don't let the word "Combat" discourage you, this is a class that every hand gun owner should take. At the end of the day, the class did not stop because we ran out of time, our instructors made sure that the class did not end until we thoroughly covered everything that needed to be covered. I look forward to taking more classes with them in the future."

Completed the eight hour Combat Focus Shooting course and and finally I have a handle on my shooting abilities, know the areas I need to work on and what it requires to safely and effectively carry a firearm. Evan and Derrick will train you in studied and proven techniques that will heighten your awareness and build your confidence in ways you never imagined. I recommend this course for anyone that carries either open or ccw. You'll be glad you did! UPDATE: Just completed 2 day Dynamic Focus Shooting course (yes name has been updated) and all I can say is that it is 1 day on steroids! You have the opportunity to peel away more layers and expose strengths and weaknesses you were not aware of. Speed AND Balance. Evan continues to impress with his knowledgeable, concise and all seeing teaching style. (barely pulled finger off frame and he nailed me!) If you carry or just would like to get more proficient with your hand gun - this is the only course (1 or 2 day) for you!"
