July Practical Rifle Match at LRGC- Vietnam Match

Good Morning All,

I have big news regarding our July Practical Rifle Match. As many of you know we will be calling our July Match Fire Base Ripcord in honor of the last large battle fought by US Troops in Viet Nam in July 1970. And do we have a very special match planned for you! Our RSO and Design Team have been hard at work coming up with what we feel is our best theme match ever!

1. This will be a team event. Registration preference will be given to those registering as a four man fire team. If you can't find a team, you may still register and we'll try our best to match you up with three other participants if space permits.

2. If you show up without your full team the day of the match, that's too bad for you. You go to battle with the army you have not the army you want. You can substitute out for any missing team member up until the time you sign in.

3. You will be given an assigned time to arrive at the range. If your team is late, we may not be able to accommodate you. So be on time!

4. When you register as a team, it is your commitment to pay the entry fee. We only have so many slots and this match will no doubt sell out in minutes. So please be sure you and your team can make the match prior to signing up.

5. There will be no optics or red dot sights permitted on any rifle. Only iron sights allowed.

6. The only permitted rifles are: AR variants, AK variants, M1A variants, and SKS rifles. Modern versions of these types of rifles are permitted. There will be one (1) twenty round stage. For those traveling from out of state, we will have 20 round AR, M1A and AK mags for your use. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE ANY OF YOUR STATE LAWS BY BEING IN POSSESSION OF AN ILLEGAL MAGAZINE. We want you here enjoying our match and not trying to make bail.

7. Period attire is certainly encouraged and rumor has it there will be a prize for the best dressed fire team.

8. You will need four (4) functional magazines for this match. Please plan on bringing 80 rounds of ammunition. Only one magazine will need to hold 20 rounds. The others need to hold a minimum of 15 rounds.

9. You will be scored as a team. There will be no individual scores kept.

10. The fee is $20/per person for LRGC Members and $25/per person for non-members.

11. We will have prizes for the winning team and the runner up team and the best dressed fire team.

12. Registration for this match will open at 0900hrs on July 10th. Use this time to get your team squared away. If you can't get a four man team, I still encourage you to register as we'll try to match you up with others if there are available slots. So use this time wisely and get your teams set up.

13. This match will be a timed event and requires advanced skills. It is not suitable for beginning shooters. You must have either attended one of our matches in the past three years, have prior military or LE experience, or have prior match or competitive shooting experience.

A portion of the match proceeds will be sent to Fire Base Ripcord Association.

I have received numerous emails about what the prize is for the winning team. While we typically don't disclose such things; I will be making an exception for this match. Each member of the winning four man fire team will receive an engraved pure 2 ounce silver 7.62 x 51 NATO bullet. On the bullet will say 2014 Firebase Ripcord.



So do you have your team yet? If you don't fear not, you can still register and we'll put you in a team if space permits.

We are going to have actual members of the 101st Airborne who were at Firebase Ripcord in 1970 attending our match.

Just thought I'd share a few of the Firebase Ripcord props that await you on July 26th. So much more awaits you! Oh did I mention the over 150 sand bags we filled this weekend? Remember, registration opens promptly at 0900hrs on July 10th. We are giving registration preference to those registering four man fire teams. If you register a four man team and get a slot, we expect you to show up and pay for the entire team. You can replace a registered team member at anytime up to sign-up. If you don't have a team, feel free to register as and individual and we'll pair you up with a team if space permits.

Remember: THIS MATCH IS NOT SUITABLE FOR NEW OR BEGINING SHOOTERS On the physical fitness side, you will need to be able to cover 100 yards in sixty seconds with your firearm and gear.

So you said you want to see more props? Well here you go. This is what 175 sand bags look like. For those who are able to participate in this match, you will see them again on the 27th! I believe this match will sell out in under 15 minutes so please be ready to register promptly at 0900hrs on July 10th.
