Funny (and good) conversation with Township ordinance guy
I am looking at a piece of land to buy in a different township, and just wanted to check in with the township in case there were any ordinances against firing guns at times of day, or anything. Some townships have regs against semi-auto and other things
So I found the township office number and called in
The conversation went like this. I am trying to get it word for word. This is very close if not exact. It just happened a minute ago.
A guy answered who must have been at least 900 years old based on his voice.
Me: Hi, I'm calling to see if there are any ordinances in the township for firearms
Old guy: Well what do you mean?
Me: I have a few firearms and I am looking at some rural land that has no nearby neighbors and thinking about firing guns there sometimes. Nothing crazy or too often, but sometimes
Old guy: This is Pennsylvania, where are you calling from?
Me: I'm also in PA,
Old guy: interrupts : In Pennsylvania we love God and guns. And thats it
Me: *laughing* Yes sir, me too, I just wanted to know if there are any ordinances about...
Old guy: Interrupts again: Don't shoot your neighbors (without any hint of laughter)
Me: *laughing* Well sure I know about firearm safety
Old guy: Then why are you calling me?
Me: *still laughing* Well, I just wanted to check
Old guy: Don't shoot your neighbors. There's an ordinance. And don't call me anymore about it
Me: *still laughing* Ok thanks
Old guy: hangs up
Not kidding at all, he told me not to shoot my neighbors, and not to call him anymore, then he hung up. I love this place, lets keep it this way.Sic semper tyrannis

Can you shoot your neighbor's dog?
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Well from your location, South Central PA is a huge area. Some townships are 75-85% OR MORE rural agricultural areas. Some people working at the township might have no clue about the ordinances nor do they think the township should have any discharge ordinances.
Be happy! And good luck with the property.

Yes, for sure. This is one of those areas that is still run by the Greatest Generation types, who march in parades all summer carrying M1s and keep American flags on their porches all year long. The guy seemed completely at a loss about why there would be regs on using a gun on my own property. It would have never crossed his mind to have ordinances against it, and I could tell he was indignant that I was even inquiring about it. He probably suspects I am a liberal Obama voter trying to infiltrate his township.

I read the title too fast.
I was wondering why your township had an "ordnance" guy.

I wouldn't call it a good conversation.... you called to get specific information that will keep you out of a jam if/when your neighbors call 911 on you for shooting on your property.
Why couldn't he give you the ordinance information you asked for??
