    Default My favorite revolver

My Ruger Alaskan is my favorite revolver. For those who are thinking about getting one, I highly recommend. It carries well in a hip holster, yet has just enough heft to handle the stoutest 44's.

Mine is in 44 magnum. For me, it is my most accurate shooting revolver I own. I think it is the adjustable sights, plus mine has a smooth double action trigger that 'stacks' just before the hammer drops. It certainly shoots like a gun with a much longer barrel.

Yesterday I tried out some Underwood 305 grain Flat nose Gas checked, rated at 1325 f/s at the muzzle. These are SERIOUS BUSINESS. The Alaskan handled them fine, but the recoil and noise were really something. Even with the gel-inserts Hogue grips, these 305 gr. thumpers sting the hand a little. The muzzle jumps and it even twists in the hands a bit. Lots of fun.

With 240 grain Blazer Magnums, the Alaskan is very comfortable to shoot, and with 44 specials, it feels almost like a 22 lr.

For anyone thinking about a Ruger Alaskan, I highly recommend this versatile revolver.

Nice. But my current favorite revolver is the S&W 686.

Hard to pick just one. I recently came into possession of a custom shop 629.

Yep, Hornady 250 grainers over some H110.

What's your carry load? When I see someone OC'ing that little beast in the area I'll come introduce myself

I'd be glad to say hi.

I keep it loaded with Underwood's 44 Special 255 grain Keith type LSWC gas checked (rated for 1000 ft/s muzzle velocity). It will probably do ~900 ft/s out of the Alaskan.

I figure it'll have similar ballistic potential of a 45 ACP full-sized 1911. As much as I like the full house magnums, I don't see it being any fun having to shoot full magnums indoors, or worse, inside a car. 44 special Keith load seems to be a good compromise.

I love my Colt Single Action Army second generation .357 with a five and a half inch barrel. My next gun however will be a Smith & Wesson 686 plus.
