The 'Longest Day' is today
I actually give Obama credit for visiting Normandy today to pay respects to the 'Greatest Generation'.
Here's some pics of the actual Longest Day.

Re: The 'Longest Day' is today
My wifes dad was in the navy in England during D-Day. She has his scrap book with the pictures, dog tags, post cards and other memorabilia. We're watching the special on NBC and she's going thru her dads book as I type. Lester her dad, made it to the age of 77 and was a great father-in-law.

Re: The 'Longest Day' is today
My dad joined the Navy in early 45'. Thought he was going to the Pacific. Then came Hiroshima and Nagasaki! He came home a happy man. He lived to be 86.

Re: The 'Longest Day' is today
Both (actually all 3) my grandpas served, two in the Pacific (one as a medical corpsman, the other as a SeaBee), the other with Patton's tanks (never talked about it). None are living now and wish I could have known more, particularly my dad's dad who died when he was ten so I never knew him.

Re: The 'Longest Day' is today
I have a few uncles who served and are gone now. I always respected them for what they did and because they were great men.

Re: The 'Longest Day' is today
Imagine if the energy, manpower, money, resources etc. used by all sides was put to good use and not wasted on war where would we be?
I mentioned before my Dad was a navigator on a B-24 stationed in England. The thing he always mentioned was they used to sit on their helmets to protect their junk from FLAK."The first time any mans freedom is trodden on we're all damaged."JeanLucPicard
