    Default Filing front sight post

Has anybody tried filing down a front sight post on a gun that shoots low? I have a RIA 9mm tactical that POI is 4 inches below POA at 10 yards. I thought it was me at first but I don't have this problem with any of my other handguns. I'm thinking about filing down the front sight to get it right. Is it worth it or do I just buy a new front sight post?

If you are thinking about buying a new sight anyway there is nothing to lose. File it down and see what happens. I did it to a Ruger P89 and it turned out fine.

    Yep.

File method works for me. Go small on the adjustments or you'll be shooting high when you're done.

ETA - Before you engage in this endeavor, you should check everything else, first, especially the barrel bushing and where the barrel locks up in the lugs. Something there could be keeping it from locking up tight and thus, making your barrel point the wrong way.

BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Have you tried firing from the bench or have a friend fire it. Could be just the way it fits your hand.

Before filing, decide what ammo you're are going to use the majority of the time and at what distance do you want POI and POA to coincide. Shoot that and see where it impacts and modify from there. Then shoot some other ammo to see what you need to remember to do to have it shoot where you are aiming with different ammo and distances.

Thanks for the suggestions. I thought it was my grip at first but I've let two other people shoot it with the same results. Also it puts all the shots into a nice ragged hole. I think if it was my grip or a mechanical issue the shots would be a little more erratic than they are. Next range trip I'll take a file along and take a little off at a time.
