Looks interesting. What are you planning on putting on the end of the barrel? My FV-SR is already threaded.

I have a fairly new FV-SR with Accutrigger and threaded barrel.

Pretty good shooter right out of the box. Smooth, light trigger pull. Dressed the barrel up with a standard flash hider. I just have to dial in or upgrade my optics to make it perfect.

    Bolt disassembly http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...ad.php?t=78552

I am posting links to take down of bolt. Also some bolts have a small washer/bushing between the spring and E clip, some do not. Confirm before disassembly.

Once it's stripped you will want to polish the extractor, firing pin and cartridge guide. First check the square side of the pieces for burrs and a sharp edge as they are cold stamped out of sheet metal. File lightly as needed using a flat or triangle pin type file and then polish edges. You can touch up with cold blue if desired but a small application of break free or other oil is all that's needed. The purpose of polishing the edges if to speed up lock time and reduce drag and more wear on components. Do not polish or file on the front of the firing pin!

Lightly polish the bolt body and face for a smoother action. I don't round the edges or anything, it's mostly for looks but serves to smooth function some.

Polish the striker around the spring area to speed up some lock time.

    Trigger disassembly

You can remove the two rearmost screws and the trigger should slide out, if not then you may have to take all the bottom metal off. Some require it most don't.

Remove the 3 E clips on the side of the trigger and then remove the three pins along with the safety lever.
Polish the trigger and hammer shoe engagement area along with the engagement face on top of the shoe. I usually just polish the whole trigger and shoe to clean it up, but the contact areas are the parts to polish.
Curved area to polish on trigger shoe

All parts polished and ready to reassemble

On polishing I use a fine/ultra fine polish in stick form on a cotton wheel attached to my mill. Works great but can also be accomplished with a drill using the same type wheel if you place it in a vise.

A thread protector when not using a suppressor .

They are very good shooters as are 90% of savages, I had a few problems with this one when I bought it but it was so cheap I can't really complain. Crappy non accu trigger, bad crown on muzzle from people handling it while on the rack, bolt was very gritty even after degreasing due to burrs, trigger was about 8 lbs with about 0.18 of creep.

I was going to buy a fvsr locally but it would weigh about 1lb more than this will with the same egw base. I also had a problem with a friends fvsr that had threads that were 0.65 long which will not work with most suppressors, savage has since corrected the problem by cutting threads 0.50 from the shoulder.

I mainly bought this one for being a cheap drag through the woods type gun.

My next project is improving the trigger on my Marlin 25N. That thing is a beast compared to the Savage's Accutrigger.

I use Rifle Basix triggers on ours instead of polishing. I have two in .17HMR. One has an accutrigger and the other did not. After putting the Rifle Basix trigger in the one without the accutrigger, I claimed that rifle as mine and gave my son my older gun with the Acc trigger. I am much more accurate with that light pull.

I'm curious as to what all you are doing to improve accuracy. Did you begin by shooting some groups with a few types of ammo so you could compare at the end?

My older Mk II shoots fine for what it is, however your bolt dissassembly has me intrigued.

Every now and then the empty cases get stuck to the bolt face and I have to flick them off with my finger. Maybe this will help.
