Carrying while carrying
Today I was in Lowes and carrying as usual. I am left handed and because of poblems with my shoulder I carry cross draw on my right side. As I am picking up only a few small items I did not get a cart. Right before check out I realize I am carrying these items in my left hand. If there was a need to draw I would have to empty my hand before filling my hand. When I got thinking about it I realized if I was carrying my items in my right hand I still would need to drop the items to clear my holster. So I guess my question is does everyone use a cart or do they just figure the amount of time to empty their hands is just not great enough to matter?

Re: Carrying while carrying
I'm right handed and carry my stuff with my left hand. Or if need be I will drop what I have. You're really talking about a quick draw scenario that I hate to picture myself being in.
I know that's what the different publications, experts and imagination brings to mind but let's be honest, that's half way to fucked already. You can always toss what you have in your hand at the threat as a distraction.
If I'm surprised by a weapon and demand for money I'll oblige and try to get something between me and them

Carry the gun in your useable hand and tuck the purchases under your wings?

Re: Carrying while carrying
I'm right handed and carry on my strong side. I guess out of habit I rarely carry something in my right hand (military; this is the hand you salute with). Unless I am carrying something that requires both hands, my hand is usually free.
Never really thought of it as an advantage in a situation like this, but I suppose it is.

Re: Carrying while carrying
Wouldn't it just make sense to drop whatever you're holding immediately if you need to draw your gun?
