Darn, I thought I found my next 1911 until.....
I've been on the lookout for a plane Jane GI style 1911 for a while. Today I stopped into StoneyBrook in York and thought I found it. Auto Ordnance 1911A1 with flared magwell, lanyard loop, lowpro sights, rollmark and brown plastic grips. It was used, well used. The finish was wearing, it had an idiot mark so deep the previous owner must of been using it as a groove and the springs were definitely shot in. In other words it was perfect for what I want. Price was fair at 399. Here's the problem and to me it is an absolute deal breaker. On the right side there is a hideous 100 year commemorative inscription. Is it just me or does this kind of thing ruin it for everybody? Maybe I'm passing something up Ill wind up regretting but I don't think so. Opinions welcome as always but lets try to keep them on the topic of engravings/etchings rather than what else I can spend the money on.

You could always polish it out and reblue the slide. It's a range gun right? Who cares?

You can buy a brand new Rock Island Armory 1911 GI for about 400 bucks give or take. And the people who own them seem to really love them. Probably one of the best deals going.
However, I do believe they say "Rock Island Armory" down the left side of the slide in color.
So you can buy a beat to hell ugly gun or a new ugly gun for about the same price.

Just spray it with some bar b que spray paint. Beside which,,,, you're suppose to be looking at the target.
George,
So many guns, so little money.

I wouldn't want that crap written on my pistol, rather on something that comes with the gun. Just not the gun .

I'd rather have that than what's on the barrel of my otherwise beautiful GP100-
Tact is just not saying true stuff. I'll pass.

$399 for used? That's why I'd pass up on it. TDM if you ask me. As for the mark you'd have to repair the scratch so redo the whole gun and cover it up.

I don't think I'll buy another Ruger handgun after owning an LC9. The excess safety features and warnings really annoyed me.

That's the kind of roll mark you see on a plate or vase, not an M1911A1. You hate to say to get it and repark the thing because of the cost. I'd pass and look for another plain Jane...new, perhaps, for close to the same price.
I have a number of PT 1911's, so I'm used to the billboard BS. I'm also used to 'Duponting' over the marks once they are honed off.BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.
