Really sig, thats it...
long story short did a trade and got a sig p229. Gun looks great, feels really solid!
.....but comes in a cardboard box? with just some egg crate foam? what is the deal with that, my Rock island had a much better case for a 400$ gun.

I had a Sig SP2022 and I'm pretty sure it had a regular black case. It may have been blue ... I don't remember. I never use the cases the guns come in though. I like the generic Plano cases.

My P229 Elite came in a blue plastic container with snap closures and more foam than needed. This was 4-5 years ago so maybe they're cutting back...

Mine came in a plastic case too. Are you positive it's a new gun?

Re: Really sig, thats it...
Every Sig I've ever bought came in a nice plastic case, except for the AR pistol which came in a cardboard long gun box.

Re: Really sig, thats it...
Perhaps a CPO gun? The gun was used but the gentlemen I traded with said he was the original owner. I thought it odd the 22lr conversion kit had a hard case and this didn't.

That was going to be my question to you...As I don't know how the CPO Sigs come packaged...But that would be my guess.
I can tell you that my NEW Sig 1911 Tac Ops that I bought last week came in a very nice, lockable, black plastic case with foam cut outs and egg crate foam padding. And 4 magazines!!! IMO Quite a nice package, and not to mention an awesome gun. Love my new Sig!

CPO's come in red plastic containers.
Here is a nice thread on SIG Forum about boxes:

Seems even pistols produced thru 2012 could come in card baord boxes. What year is your 229?

Re: Really sig, thats it...
Sigs used to come in cardboard boxes - gray, just prior to them going to plastic cases. The conversion kit was purchased at a much later time - they weren't even available until about the 2007 - 2008 time frame. Your P229 probably has a flat takedown lever - whereas the later ones had a raised lower portion.
It was not a CPO, as they came in red palstic cases and I'm not sure when that program started, but I doubt it was in place at the time the new guns were shipped in cardboard boxes.
You bought the firearm, not the box. Enjoy it, you have a very high quality firearm there.
