overall neutral encounter while OCing in New Hope.
so the wife and i took a ride in the Cobra to New Hope for a dinner yesterday. i was wearing khaki cargo shorts with a polo shirt while OCing my Beretta 92FS Inox in a Blackhawk serpa holster @ about the 4 oclock position. i actually was able to find parking on Main St to my surprise. stopped in Havana's for dinner and afterwards we took a walk up towards Bridge St. right as we got to where the Bucks Co Playhouse is, we pass a dad and his 2 kids. as we walk by i heard him say something but i didn't think it was directed towards me. so i looked back and it went like this:
him: how's that work out for you?
me: how's what work?
him: carrying your gun like that
me: open carry is 100% legal in Pa
him: i know that but don't you get hassled by the cops?
me: nope, never had any problems
him: why not just conceal it?
me: it's easier and more comfortable for me when i wear shorts
him: yeah but you know how uptight this area is, the cops are sure to stop you
me: i was in a store here a few weeks ago OCing and there was LEO inside, he never even batted an eye at me and i know he saw my sidearm. besides i am comfortable enough with myself and my understanding of the laws in PA if i am approached by an officer to be able to handle the situation should it present itself
him: well why don't you just pull your shirt over it?
me: because it's my right to not do so. and even if i did, it's a full size pistol. it's pretty obvious to tell there's a gun under my shirt.
him: you're making yourself a target with it exposed like that
him: (makes a face) ok, well good luck
me: thanks and have a good evening
i smiled, was courteous and generally was overly pleasant the whole conversation with the guy because i honestly wasn't sure which way it was going to go. that was my first neutral "encounter" even though it wasn't much of one. i have had a couple positive ones thoughLast edited by 03SVTCobra; April 29th, 2014 at 09:28 PM.

FAIL!!! You didn't whip it out and beat him into submission , then sit on his chest and carve OC into his forehead with the front sight! You fail!!

I have not been to new hope in like 3 yrs. Was thinking of taking girlfriend and daughter down there next nice weekend. Sounds like Leo dont hassle and respect state law. I have no problems in ne pa pocono area with open carry. Thx.

AM I BEING DETAINED?!?!?!?!??
New Hope is an area I would expect some Bloomburgite to cry about OC.
Good on you for the positive way you handled.

See my edit. That's where I would have stopped the conversation, because most times when I'm asked that it is in "you're scaring the children" demeanor. Maybe I'm reading into too much, but the his other comments push me to think this guy is just a Bloomburger mindless mouthpiece.
Would this guy ask someone to stop practicing their religion in public? Cover up their American Flag shirt?

^ yeah, at first he seemed like he was genuinely interested about OC so thats why I kept politely answering. Towards the end I knew he wasnt and was trying to walk away but he kept talking...

You did well. I was out visiting my parents in WV last week, and my Mother asked me why I don't just cover it up. I gave her the same answer you gave that guy.
It is more comfortable for me , too.

lmao
So far I have yet to be stopped by LEO, but thats not saying I wont ever get stopped. but like I said, I am confident in my knowledge of the laws concerning OC.
Thanks. Yeah, new hope does tend to be more of a liberal area and I've even noticed a LOT of NY tags in the area this year so I'm just waiting for one of them to make a stupid comment to me about my sidearm...

Dammit, I knew I was forgetting something else he said to me - towards the end of our conversation, right around when he asked why I just don't pull my shirt down, after I gave him my reason for not doing so he said that I was making myself a target with my gun exposed
