    Default AR in 7.62x39

Got a dumb question, just going to ask it. I have plenty of AR's in 5.56/223 and AK's in 7.62 and 5.45 so I want to build an AR in 7.62x39. Just got the upper, bcg and charging handle now I want to buy the lower. Lower is the same for 223 and 7.62x39 correct? I keep thinking the 7.62 would need to be different to handle the increased recoil - but I guess not ??

I thought the lower for an ar in 7.62x39 would need an ar-10 not an ar-15. The ar-15 can handle the 5.45x39. The ar-10 handles the 30 cal range. And I could be completely wrong. I am just starting with the ar platform. Strength wise I think the ar-15 could handle 7.62x39 but I think it is too big a round for the space inside the lower.

My post, my opinion, and I could be wrong about everything above.

any normal ar15 lower works for x39, you can put a 50bmg boltaction on an ar15 lower. the lower realy doesnt take any real force. you will need the special x39 mags though and they can be unreliable at times. if you can find one there are lowers that take Ak mags but they arent cheap.

MGI makes lowers that accept AK mags, and the magwells swap out for other oddball calibers as well. They are not cheap, but they work the best and the cost of mags will make up for it.

Thanks guys. So it seems a normal AR lower will work, but I am a bit confused on the comments about mags. If I get a standard AR15 lower, will I have problems with my 7.62x39 30 round mags?

They say order the 30-round mag. I suspect the problem is not COL, but larger case and head diameter...not a lot, so maybe they just adjust .223 "lips".

I am pretty sure they won't go in a standard AR magwell. They make special 7.62x39 mags for ARs. With the MGI, you get to use the AK mags. You'll have to check this yourself because I am going from memory, never done it.

I was sitting here and then it dawned on me - "why not go to gun room and try an AK magazine in my AR - duh! And it does not fit. I see the posts for AR type magazines that are made for 7.62x39. I actually bought a 30 round mag with the upper because it came as part of the kit with bcg and charging handle, will now have to check to be sure it was an AR type. Think I've got it figured out now - thanks!

Ok, I should be good to go - I went back into their website to see what magazine I bought with the bcg and charging handle and it was an AR ACS mag
