I have a simple solution to this problem. Never sell your firearms.

Or if you operate a gasoline station, never sell gasoline to a stranger. Never know what he is going to do with it.

Re: Quick Long gun Transfer Question
Tracing a criminally-used gun to me will be just a part of investigative SOPs toward identifying and prosecuting the criminal who so employed it.
If I can't help them, that lead is a dead end, not a crime.
As far as that goes, you're probably better off selling the gun to a total stranger..investigation will not be able to establish provable evidence that the buyer was known to the seller. I see that as a plus.
You could think you know a neighbor not knowing about a prohibitive past and look like an illegal supplier after selling to him.
Last I knew the prosecution had a burden of proof, not a burden of inference.
Inference with no foundation should not satisfy probable cause requirements.
When they finally close the "gunshow loophole", all of this will be moot. What then will we do with all this pent-up energy?
