Form 4 sign-off by township police chief?
For anybody familiar with NFA transfers, form 4, etc....can I have my TOWNSHIP police chief sign my form 4? (I do in fact live within the township lines and am served by said township police).
Or, does it have to be my COUNTY sheriff?

Thanks. Do you think if the SHeriff finds out he would be pissed that the local guy did it? Or maybe he would never know.

Sheriff...
Township Police chief...
State Police...
Magistrate...

Judge...
Any of the above can do a cursory background check and sign off.

The sheriff has no say in the matter.
I signed off on the form for a guy who lives in my town a few years ago, when I was acting chief. The sheriff in Luzerne County (back then) would not sign off!

Re: Form 4 sign-off by township police chief?
Honestly the main reason I'd rather have my local chief do it is because I already have to take time off from work to go to his station to have fingerprints done anyway, so why not kill two birds with one stone? I'm not trying to go behind the sheriff's back. It's also a lot less of a big dramatic deal to stop by the local station that to go to the courthouse, go through security, all that crap, not to mention I'd have to make an appointment.

Re: Form 4 sign-off by township police chief?
In a similar instance, I was looking for the definition of "CLEO". I spent a few minutes searching this site and also others. I asked my local township police sergeant and he was fine with it. He was unsure if he would be allowed to sign off, not being the chief. Would the rank of sergeant qualify as a "CLEO"?
