For all north american native sp besides coral snakes (of which no antivenin exists) they use Crofab. Exotics is where it gets tricky.
A Google search for coral snake antivenom yields some interesting results. I had no idea how complicated that situation is.

Hopefully I'll never need to know anything more about it.

i have a few N frame S&W revolvers in 45ACP, and have "shot cases" for them made from 8X57 mauser brass. cut it off to 1/16" less than cylinder length, use moon clips, fire form it with 5 grains green dot powder and about 1/2 oz of #8 or 9 shot, using card wads cut from stiff box paper. kills barn rats, pidgeons, squirrels, and snakes dead to about 25 feet. pattern opens up after that and get hollow centers.

Yep, super complex issue. Few people are ever bit by em, so they stop making the antivenin, but they still need a method to treat people for the bite so they extend the expiration date of whats left.

It appears theres now a project in process to make more (with the current "expiration" date of the old stuff set at April 2014), but I didn't spend a lot of time reading the details.

On a side note I have used .22 snake/bird shot for chipmunks in the past, works well at short range.
