Kahr PM40
Today my PM40 didn't return to battery several times at the range. If I pushed the slide with my thumb it would return (no click - just go the last 1/2" into battery). At first I thought the round was hanging up but it did the same thing with no magazine and an empty chamber. I broke the gun down and found a buggered guide rod and recoil spring
I ordered a new set from Kahr (only $20) but my question is how often should the recoil spring be replaced? It's a small gun with a decent size caliber (40 S&W).
For the heck of it I also ordered a new spring for my Bersa. It has the original spring (2003) and has somewhere close to 10k rounds through it. It still runs fine but lately I have noticed a few more failure to feeds than I ever had. The spring was $8.00 so....why not.Last edited by Rblakely; April 13th, 2014 at 10:56 PM.

Re: Kahr PM40
Personally I was ready to buy the same pistol. I was being advised against it by most LGS employees and brushed it off, until my buddies P380 locked up with a loaded round in it. Have seen plenty of failures since, and would not trust my life to a Kahr.

Re: Kahr PM40
I had a PM9 that I liked for its size but had numerous problems as it would not reliably cycle. I also did not like the way the gun shot (hit) when on target. Happiest day for me was when I traded it away.

Re: Kahr PM40
My wife has been carrying a PM9 for 2 years now as her edc and we haven't had any problems with it. Not sure of the round count but has to be approaching 1000 by now. No failures even during the 200 round recommended break in. By far the most accurate mouse gun I've ever shot.

Re: Kahr PM40
I replaced the guide rod and spring. Sent 50 rounds down range with no issues. I really do like the gun and I am glad to have it back on my belt. I carried my 380 for a few days while I was waiting on the spring and I felt naked

Re: Kahr PM40
I didn't see a round count on the kahr prior to the failure but maybe that is your guideline?

Re: Kahr PM40
I bought it used so total round count is unknown. I had put about 250 rounds through it when I started having issues. I have seen several sites that recommend changing the spring at 1500~2000 rounds.
The spring in it now came from Kahr but I ordered another from Wolf to have handy.
