Out of State "long gun" private sale question
Hi all-
Found a 'long gun' that I want that is being offered private sale, seller lives/ resides in state of NY - I am resident and live in PA...
Seller offered to meet someplace in the middle for the transaction - but that would be NJ, and I wasn't sure if we can legally perform this transaction in NJ because:
1 - it's NJ!!! (yikes)
2 - neither of us are legal residents of the state of NJ
The seller is offering to drive to PA for transaction but not sure of where...
Since we made it this far, wanted to get advice from you good people of PAFOA on how to follow through with this legally.
Thanks

I don't know the legal aspects but I would stay out of that communist state with any gun.

It needs to be done at a FFL for sure.
I'd avoid any NJ or NY FFL's because they may be brainwashed.
The easiest thing to do is have the seller deliver the firearm to a FFL in his respective state to ship to your preferred FFL. It would probably be the cheapest route too.
Dad and I have shipped firearms back and forth between FL and PA for as little as $20 for handguns using FFL's on both ends. Long guns were a little more expensive because of the size and weight of boxes.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

ok so in this way... it's legal (very important) and he gets his money while i get my firearm (and not ripped off) because the complete transaction is being handled FFL-to-FFL?

You can NOT do a private face to face transaction because you are residents of different states.
You can do a private face to face transfer at a FFL in PA or NY (as long as the FFL agrees to it). I would opt for a PA FFL. The seller gives the gun to the FFL, then the FFL records it in his books. The buyer then gives the money to the seller (actually this part can happen at any time) and fills out the appropriate paperwork that the FFL gives him and undergoes the background check. If all good, then the FFL gives the gun to the buyer and records the transaction in his books and the buyer leaves with his new gun.
OR, the buyer tells the seller to have the gun shipped to the buyers local FFL (with whom he has previously set it up with the FFL to receive the gun). He pays the seller and the gun is shipped to the buyers FFL and the buyer completes the transfer at his FFL.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member
