For the price range its in ,it is a decent performer on the range. Not a bad choice for your first 1911 pistol.

I have had a love hate relationship with Taurus products and I see a lot of there 1911's in the shop for refinishing. Personally I have owned three Taurus pistols and had trouble with all three. The last one that I had in for refinishing the firing pin stop was being peened in place in the slide by the poor fit of the slide and frame. It was difficult to remove and needed a bit of work to resolve it's issues. In the price range that you are looking at I would buy the Eagle a Ruger or a Sringfield Armory range officer before I would buy the Taurus. If you want to spend a little bit less then I would recommend a Tisas's Turk made 1911.

I have a Taurus PT1911 and a MR 1911G. I reload .45 ACP. I was having trouble feeding the 1911G, but not the PT1911 w/230 LRN bullets. I mic'd the chamber dimensions and found the 1911G was tighter. Not much, but just enough to prevent the slide from closing on lead bullets sometimes.

Overall fit, finish, and firing capability of the 1911G are very good for a pistol in its price class. Racking the slide of the 1911G felt like it was on roller bearings. I feed it jacketed ammo and have no problems.

The only eqipment problem I had was with the slide stop. I called MR CS and they sent me a new one free of charge. The CS rep said that some were not manufactured correctly and I probably had one. Other than that; all is good.

The wife and I have four 1911s, RIA Tactical, RIA GI, Springfield Armory Range Officer and a MR Desert Eagle 1911G. For some reason I am more accurate with the DE than any of the others. I, too, had a problem with the slide lock after a few hundred rounds but solved it with a Wilson Combat slide lock.

Aimhigh - get a taper crimp die, that should fix you lockup trouble with lead rounds.
