    Default Person-to-person HAZMAT shipping?

My step-father-in-law was gracious enough to purchase some gunpower for me. Unfortunately, he lives several states away. He informed me today that after contacting UPS, he lacks the necessary licenses or paperwork to ship the powder to me. Can this be true? How can he ship me this powder, or would I have to drive out to get it?

Drive out to get it, meet him halfway, tell him to sell/keep it or find someone with a hazmat license to ship for him and expect an expensive rate to ship it. Hope he bought a lot to offset the shipping cost.

I'm afraid unless you can find someone licensed to ship hazmat, acceptable to the shipper, you're in for a road trip.

All LGS have HAZMAT if they carry reloading supplies. Maybe he can throw them a few bucks to ship it for him. Otherwise, enjoy your roadtrip to see your family.

    Or just...

My favorite scene from a Christmas Story was when he was opening that crate and had trouble pronouncing that Italian word...

Did you know some people that want to ship drugs send it overnight because they think there is no time for the package to be searched?

Yes. Not everyone knows how to pack hazardous items, not everyone knows what not to ship.

I can recall the Value Jet accident when live chemical oxygen generators were put into the hold of an aircraft. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ValuJet_Flight_592

When I've ordered gunpowder from Midway, Cabelas, and PowderValley, they arrived in a smallish box with some packing paper surrounding the jug. I'm reasonably certain my step-father-in-law could manage the same

Looks like I'll have to wait until June to pick things up. That sucks

Yup, it sucks . . . but odds are you will have it faster than from any online source.

Gotta look at the bright side

I try to keep that in mind -- he picked up 3x8lbs of H335 and 4x4lbs of WSF. His local gun shop only sells to locals and refuses to ship things.

I just hope my existing stash lasts
