Out of state friend wants to stored guns at my house
What's the law? MY FRIEND FROM NJ and I were having a conversation and he asked if it got so bad in NJ and I had to store my guns at your house, could I?I was not sure of the law and have heard conflicting stories. If this were the case, it would be a few hand guns.
More curious than anything. Also, is there a federal law banning this?"I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery." Thomas Jefferson

Well... Multiple state and federal felonies would be committed...
Transport, possession, transfer, etc
Don't do it

What if it were my dad? The reason I asked besides the conversation, were people in NY discussing getting their guns out of state. Also, the guy in DC that got screwed for having a shot gun shell said openly he keeps his guns at his sisters house in VA.

Family means nothing, you're crossing state lines
If they left them at your house in a safe bolted to the floor and you had no access to them at all... Maybe
But you're treading thin ice
How are they going to legally transport them?Last edited by BimmerJon; March 12th, 2014 at 08:37 PM.

Re: Out of state friend wants to stored guns at my house
Going to need some citations there.
It is not that tough to legally transport from NJ to PA.
The OP said nothing about transferring ownership.
Possession should be no problem if the OP is not a prohibited person.
I hunted in NY with a friend from NJ a while back. I brought his shotgun home to borrow it for a gun club shoot his gun was better suited for. His gun is still in my safe. It was properly secured for transport. I am not a prohibited person and own my own guns. I am not sure where you are seeing any crime.

The federal preemption allows you to transport guns across state lines... so not really sure why you think it is illegal.
I don't see anything wrong with storing your friends guns... nothing legally that is. As long as you are not prohibited from owning yourself. I can borrow a gun from a friend, and he can borrow from me without issue. its the same thing in this situation.“The right to bear arms is the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt.” Ice-T

Those would be illegal transfers across state lines. No exception for family either.
The only safe way is to have him bring the guns to PA and go to a FFL and have them all transferred legally to you.
At a later date, your friend might choose to leave the Peoples Republic of Jersey and live in PA. At which time you can hand him back his long guns and then go to a FFL and transfer back his handguns.Μολὼν λάβε

Re: Out of state friend wants to stored guns at my house
Its legal to move guns across state lines. The problem exists if the guns weren't really his which I'm sure you know him better than that or if the guns are registered in your friends name which I'm sure they are and law enforcement comes for them he'll be coming to pick them up from your house pronto anyways. You cant hide handguns. Long guns are a different story. In PA you can legally sell them without registering them into buyers name.
