LTCF and Lower Merion
Well I got back from Norristown which was mostly "in-and-out" and got my LTCF no hassles. The drive and waiting on line was the big time stopper. I was surprised to see a little line for gun permits. I already had my LM police check done so it was seamless.
I noticed now that I'm looking at the laws, in LM since they can't ban firearms, they ban any air guns or any gun not a firearm that shoots pellets. So I can have a gun, but I can't have a BB gun in LM. That's Liberal Merion for you.

It's Montco's very own "required" thing they make you fill out. You go to your local police pay an illegal fee and when they're done the check you go to the Sheriff and you walk out right away with your license. If you don't do the check card, they will make you wait up to 45 days to do the background check.

Re: LTCF and Lower Merion
I'm surprised you have not heard of it but sure it is legal.
The sheriff is going to investigate the background of the applicant. That investigation will take time and will likely involve the sheriff contacting the applicant's local police department to find out if the applicant is a problem flying below the radar.
This takes place in many counties, such as Chester and Delaware. It can take up to 45 days and the applicant has no way of rushing it.
In Montgomery, the applicant has the option of getting a note from the local police stating that they are not "known" to the PD. In this case the applicant may walk into the courthouse and exit with the LTCF in the same visit. Hopefully the new sheriff will continue this.
There is no excuse for local PDs to charge a fee to do this small service for the people of their community.

It cost me zero, and about one week at the Limerick police dept. Not problems.

Re: LTCF and Lower Merion
Right, I think the only illegal part is the PD charging the fee. When I told LMP that, they said too bad.
It clearly outlines the fees involved with getting a LTCF. But coming from NY/NJ where even if you do get a license, it's upwards of $200 I think, I didn't complain too much.
