    Default Re: Groundhog Hunting

I hunt groundhog a lot on the game lands near my house. I use my 17 hmr and i have it sited in for about 100-150 yards which I think is enough for groundhogs and squirrels. I haven't gotten a groundhog yet, cause everytime I get near one I either don't see him or he sees me first and busts. Anyone have any suggestions?

BTW 'chucks are good to eat I am told; just really hard to skin. The ones I shoot are usually torn up pretty bad. Would not want to eat them anyway.

Jeff - Sent you a PM. I'm in Yardley and want to come out and hunt with ya. I'll drive, carry the bags, and even cook them if you want.

Ah, yes the time has come. And to tell the truth I have 4 so far this year. and I'm a little dissapointed in the .204 ruger, not what I expected. A .19-223? that sounds interesting is that also the 19Calhoon?? They do come up with some odd ideas. Any who I think I'll switch to a 22lr/ mag.(not so loud) I'll let y'all know if I make THE shot.

BTW hunter1254 don't give up on them. If they see you when they go down move 30-40 yards left or right, then lay down and wait he'll come back up to look. And if he don't see you he'll wander around like he was. Then let 'em have it! Works every time.

any caliber will work some times I break out the 7mm rem mag.but if I can I'm lookin to get a 22 or a17 now I'm using a 223 rem. Some shots are over 400 yards, my best is 532yards but that was from feild to feild. I have one spot that will put you from 25-60 yards away but its worse than rabbits in briars. 175 will be no problem. If you don't mind prone.

sounds good.... I can go prone... but with my surgery dont know if I can do it offhand.. might have to use some kind of brace or something... but would really like to try it...

What would be a good time to call you ... just let me know and I will work around YOUR schedule.....

    Thanks again
