I have a Pedersoli Sharps and a Marlin 1895 both in 45/70. I took them along when we went shooting with some friends. The comment after the shooting was. "The Sharps shot the way a rifle should shoot." Next time I go shooting the sharps is coming along.
I always stressed to my son"one shot one kill that was all that is needed". When He came home from Marine Corp Boot camp He was telling me about the Marines stressing "ONE SHOT ONE KILL" He looks at me and the light bulb went on Dad was now a whole lot smarter than he was 13 weeks ago.

Noah what a great collection of 45/70's .
I honestly thought I had all the 45/70's I needed (at least that's what I told the wife) until I seen it...

I've never seen one before. So tonight I informed the wife we are on the hunt for just one more 45/70

That was the exit wound. I shot it right behind the right shoulder, it exited through the left. 300gr JHP @ 1800fps +/_ from about 30ft away. I was able to eat right up to the holes. It was like - bang, deer jumps, runs 25-30 and dropped stone cold dead.

LOL 30ft!!! I'm sure it would've scared the shit out of him if he wasn't dead.
I would have imagined a bigger exit hole.
