Storing ammo in Ak mags// How long????

I am wondering if storing Ak mags with 30 rounds will hurt anything over long term storage? I have read about 1911 mags stored with ammo for 50+ years without an issue, And that the spring compressing and decompressing is the real issue, Not sitting compressed for 10-20 years,,,, I simply am running out of room in my in my ammo safe, and getting the AK mags full would open up some space, It seems as I find ammo at great prices I have bought alot, I just got 800 rounds of 30-06 at $225, How could anyone resist... But the 7.62 is just taking up too much space.
Anyone have any imput????

Id get a box to store your mags in if you're worried about spring compression.

I stack my mags on top my safe.

compressing and decompressing the spring is what wears it out, leaving mags loaded over a long period of time shouldn't mess with the mag itself. As far as how long the ammo will last loaded in the mags will depends on the type of ammo, and storage area.

+1 on the compression/decompression being the enemy. Keep them dust-free and in a cool, dry environment, like an oversize ammo can with a good seal and dessicant packs. Dust attracts moisture, which allows rust to begin.

I have a large safe in my basement which is dry and always has been, In that safe is almost all my ammo and all the mags, I dont like the thought of storing guns and ammo together,,,,,
It will be quite the fun loading all the mags, But that is what TV is for.
