What's the name of the SCOTUS case...
I am having a major brain fart and can't remember the name of the case that decided it is not the police's job to protect individual citizens, but rather society as whole.
Its out of D.C., involved the lady's house being burglarized, the was then held for days, raped, etc.... the police came but never made entry to see what was wrong and she sued - and lost.
Any help? I'm sure someone out there knows it off the top of their head..."The rifle is the weapon of democracy. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military. The hired servants of our rulers. Only the government-and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws." (Edward Abbey, "The Right to Arms," Abbey's Road [New York, 1979])
I have my rifle. Do you?

I think you're talking about Warren vs. District of Columbia

That's the one!
Thank you!"The rifle is the weapon of democracy. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military. The hired servants of our rulers. Only the government-and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws." (Edward Abbey, "The Right to Arms," Abbey's Road [New York, 1979])

Wow...that's interesting. I just thought somewhere along the line someone just decided to use a v instead of vs because it was shorter.
It seems I do recall seeing in earlier years, just for example, Roe vs. Wade and now in later years Roe v. Wade.
Is this a recent change or what's up with that...anyone know?

Re: What's the name of the SCOTUS case...
This was one of those "semi-useless knowledge factoid" things that I remember being taught in school, and it was a comment that interested me so my brain filed it away. I'm not sure if there's a reasoning behind it, but to my knowledge it's a convention that's been around for a long time. However, my recollection may not be completely correct, I'd be curious to see if any of our lawyers on-board can tell me if IIRC or not; I've been looking for information online to either prove/disprove my statement, and haven't found anything yet.
