Re: Ammo Cans
i have both metal and plastic ammo cans
both hold ammo but the plastic ones seem to bulge on the sides which disrupts the "o ring" seal and also makes me question how they would hold up long term or if dropped.
cabelas had their brand for 8 or so dollars a couple months ago and i bought 5. the next week they were selling the metal ones for 9.99 and i was kicking myself.Montani Semper Liberi

Re: Ammo Cans
I only have the metal cans, for what I paid that's what Ill stick with.
One was a from AIM, listed as new but they look more like a refurb. paid $14, got some mags too so shipping was spread out. Has the typical thick paint with runs.
I have a bunch more I had my father grab when he went to the scrap yard. I cant recall the price, pretty sure was $10ea. They are milsurp but in great shape. Only one has some scratches and dents, but all have flawless paint and no rust. Seals are great. Believe they are standard .50 cal size but are labeled 5.56 ball.
Ill add pictures when I get a chance.
ETA: Pictures, they look worse than they really are, the white scratches are more like scuffs. Id say good deal for $10ea. I bought about 5 of them

Re: Ammo Cans
I like the steel cans for storing ammo. I have a double-wall flammable materials storage cabinet for ammo, and most of it is in steel cans. If my basement was on fire, I hope that would delay the rounds from popping off and scaring the firemen away.
Or maybe storing it that way turns it into a huge ammo bomb that will level the neighborhood. I'm hoping for the former.

Re: Ammo Cans
I picked up 3 from tractor supply for $15 each brand new. They're Chinese made though. But a metal can has got to be pretty hard to f up even for them. Anyone know where the Gander Mts are made?
Btw the first time I found cheaper n dirt was 4 years ago when they had 12 for $200+. Never did buy from them.
Btw I have two 50 cal cans that I bought from the army navy store, they are taller and have a VT tab on the top. What were these for? Are they common?"Governments... derive their just powers from the consent of the governed."

Re: Ammo Cans
I've been curious about the various sources of "new" ammo cans as well.
Are they the SAME cans as the military uses minus the stenciling, or are they simply "copies"?
I have one can that came filled with ammo when I ordered from ammoman and it's a new, "Blackhawk!" brand can. Looking at it, it appears to be the same, but I never sat it next to a surplus can to do a close comparison.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
