    Default Unique problem for non-resident

Hi guys here is my issue.

I have a CCW now issued by Centre county that is expiring end of March.
I live in Illinois where they had no CCW permitting at the time I applied in PA.
Now they are just implementing it as we speak.
I am wondering if this will affect my renewal because of the provision that requires an applicant to provide a CCW from their home state if the home state issues CCW's.
Since I am already a permit holder, I wonder if this will be waived.
Getting a CCW in IL is going to take ages and cost 300 bucks to apply.

Also now that you can no longer apply by mail and since I am over 700 miles away, I am wondering if anyone knows of a western border county that is as good and fast to work with as Centre county is.
And will it make a difference which county I go to, must I go back to Centre if I want the process to go quickly or will applying for a renewal in another PA county mean that I am back to square one for applying all over again and in for a long process?
I plan on driving so want it to be in and out.

    Thanks, guys, mike

You will definitely need an IL permit now that IL officially issues them. There is no getting around that.

As for western border counties, hopefully someone else can fill you in on a over the counter, non-resident friendly, sheriff.

New apps and renewals, resident and non-resident, the process is the same.

I would suggest you would be better off getting a Utah permit, but they require you to have one from your state of residence as well, as long as your state of residence issues them.

I'm going to say you're screwed on this one. In hindsight you probably should have renewed prior to IL implementing whatever mess they are working on.
You can renew a ltcf anytime during the issue period, but thats's water under the bridge.

At this point you will need a suitable nonresident with Pa reciprocity.

Not exactly true, Utah only requires a home state license if your home state and Utah recognize each others license/permit. While Utah recognizes Illinois (they recognize all states) Illinois does not recognize Utah (they do not recognize any other state) so an Illinois resident could in fact acquire a Utah permit.

    Thank you for that correction!

Anyone know if the BATFE has updated the Federal Register to reflect that IL issues? Because until that's been done an IL permit isn't required for an IL resident to be issued a PA LTCF.

(ix) A resident of another state who does not possess a current license or permit or similar document to carry a firearm issued by that state if a license is provided for by the laws of that state, as published annually in the Federal Register by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms of the Department of the Treasury under 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(19) (relating to definitions).
