Default Handgun Ammo Stockpile: FMJ or JHP

For those who stockpile handgun ammo. Do you stockpile FMJ or JHP? Not for target shooting, but for potential SHTF or similar? I've been collecting just FMJ figuring that's what military uses and cheaper, but would a few hundred ro a thousand HP's also be good to have around? Curious to people's habits and reasoning.

Would you quantify 'plenty of that'? Should one have enough to fill a few mags for each handgun, or a large surplus of hundreds, or thousands, of rounds. Again, just curious to what folks are doing.

JHP's are for people that you see in those ads in gun magazines where there is a freeze frame shot of a person with a look of fear/surprise as they draw their pistol to face a perp and of course their life will be saved by the Pink Dot Extreme Full Contact Maximum Defense rounds they have in their gun.

Beyond plugging street punks at close range, I'd say most hollow point rounds are not all that useful in any urban or rural combat scenario which involves cars, houses, foliage and other cover. I'd also say in SHTF urban or rural combat, pistols will have very limited use and purpose and would not waste your time too much hording much for pistols. Hollywood over the decades has romanticized the pistol beyond it's capabilities and they are pointless in any combat situation beyond 15 yards.

Exactly. Beyond 15 yards, I switch from pointing to aiming.

Buy only what you can afford so you don't create your own personal SHTF situation!

    "Invest" accordingly.

I'm a little quicker to buy certain calibers depending on practicing needs. I've walked away from some 9mm and 45 at walmart recently because I'm saving my limited funds for when another caliber becomes available that I have less of.
    ...and they have a plan...

I keep limited JHP. Though in my Carry Pistol I have ball/jhp/ball/jhp etc. Overall I like storing Ball/FMJ etc.

I keep FMJ and JHPs on hand. I don't keep a set ratio or anything... For me it's about exceeding my (self imposed) quantity goals. I try to keep 1000 rounds per gun on hand at all times. If I go below those levels, I start buying whatever I can get my hands on in those calibers.

I reload .38/.357, 9mm, 45 Colt, and .45 acp with either hard lead or plated lead, round nose. It the BG doesn't like being hit with that, screw 'em.

I'd say 3/4 of my handgun ammo is FMJ. All of my rifle ammo is FMJ.
And I have to add, I am woefully light on both.
