Yes, I found that out the hard way! It's a Aimpoint PRO or above or you are just wasting your time according to many.

For a non-defensive rifle I have heard lots of good thing about Primary Arms and and Strikefire.

For a serious defensive rifle your option's are Aimpoint and Eotech with the PRO and 512 models respectively as the value models.

I think the Aimpoint has the edge for battery life and better controls.

On your budget, I would buy an IOR http://swfa.com/IOR-1x-Edge-Tactical...ht-P42524.aspx

    This might help:

They review all of the aforementioned sights that I saw being discussed while skimming through the thread.

I think I'm going to try a micro dot out for my second build. I'm leaning more towards getting the Sparc II from Vortex simply because of their warranty. The Primary Arms micro dot gets a lot of recommendations over on ar15.com, I just prefer Vortex's lifetime warranty over PA's warranty on their micro dot. This may all change and I might buy a second Aimpoint PRO if PSA has a good deal on a complete upper and PRO again when I have the lower together.

I do however think I'm going to have to get one of the Primary Arms 1-6x illuminated scopes just because the price is so crazy cheap compared to any other 1-6x scope.

People on ar15.com almost seem to worship PA stuff. I do like how the owner is active over there and is honest. Recommending an Aimpoint, or Trijicon over his products for people that are truly in the shit, and not guys just going out the the range on the weekends.
