AK Build Party in Philadelphia
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in having an AK build party in or around Philly. I have 4 80% receivers and I'd like to build one out and I could probably do it myself but I thought it would be more fun and productive as a group. I'm open to any ideas!

Is this actually a thing people do? Also, can there be beer involved? It's a party right? Finally do you want to sell me one of those receivers?

Yep this is something a lot of people do. And yes there can be beer! I'm open to selling one of those receivers, I have 4 so I doubt I'll be able to build all 4. send me a private message and we'll work something out.

You're treading a very thin line on committing multiple federal crimes
OP has only 3 posts and one is an infraction
Just saying

Re: AK Build Party in Philadelphia
There are some legal minefields to be avoided, for example, completing a receiver (manufacturing) with the intent to sell it, requires an FFL. Selling an unmodified receiver casting, does not.
The AK build parties that have been shut down were "parties" where someone provided the CNC machine and the program to complete the receiver; the person providing the service was "manufacturing" for others.
Such a party can be done, but it has to be done without stepping on any of the legal land mines.Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com

Re: AK Build Party in Philadelphia
Everyone purchases an 80% receiver. Not a crime.
Joe provides a drill press and drills and jig.
Everyone does their own drilling using a borrowed drill press and jig.
Joe isn't manufacturing - he's just loaning his tools to someone.
I think what got the CNC user in trouble was including the CNC programming, which essentially meant he was doing all the work for everyone, i.e., manufacturing.

Nope. I have no desire to build an AR. I just commented on the possible legal alternative to a programmed CNC.

Re: AK Build Party in Philadelphia
This is something I would be interested in as long as we stay in the law. Are we talking meeting at someone's garage and sharing tools and having someone with the experince walk us threw it?

Re: AK Build Party in Philadelphia
The laws are in black and white and have been tested time and again. The case your referencing is a man had a mechanized CNC mill. He told people to buy certain 80% receivers and meet at his home. He then proceeded to build out all the lowers himself while party goers sat around drinking beer and eating food.
With a cnc machine the owner of the lower has to operate the machine that is creating his lower.
he does not need to own said machine.
IANAL
