    Smile Pistol storage

I was wondering what is the best way to store your pistols. Should you store them in the plastic cases they come in or hang them up in there and give them some breathing room. Those plastic cases take up a lot of room. It's

Typically it's best to keep them in a gun safe with a light coat if oil not it the plastic case. Those cases have foam in them that is subject to gathering moisture.
A good moisture rod and desiccant can is recommended

I keep mine in a 4 drawer tool chest that I got on sale at Lowes.

    What Klutch said. 👍👌👏

A light coat of oil or preservative is best, if practical. Unless it's in your sock drawer.

Speaking of socks, those silicone gun socks work nice too.

I can offer a DON'T..... Don't store a blued steel or nickel-plated steel pistol in a leather holster. Almost guaranteed pitting may result.

A blued pistol with a light coat of oil stored in a plastic case with the egg crate foam will come out spotted. The peaks of the foam will soak up some of the oil.

The dryer the better. I have a stack of plastic cases in the basement from over the years. I have a safe with a dehumidifier. Keep them out of the cases, they just hold moisture. The desiccant packs are a good buy considering the results if you don't use them. Like everybody else said a very thin coat of oil goes a long way.

I use DampRid in my larger cabinet, rechargeable silica tins in my small safe and in my ammo cans. Wipe-downs with oil keeps the salt left behind in your fingerprints from discoloring your finish. Storing them open to the air in a low moisture area (safe/locker/cabinet) will allow any moisture to escape.

Being active Army, mine have been in their factory cases for over a year now while I am here in Korea. They are doing just fine, don't have em soaked in oil or anything, or even have a light coat on them. I will say them are all modern firearms, mostly polymer S&W, Springfield, ARs, and a SCAR.
