Default S&W SW9VE slide finish can it be blued?

I may be picking up a Smith and Wesson SW9VE Sigma for a good price. Normally I do not bother with 9mm handguns nor do I like stainless or comparable finishes on firearms but the price dominates my dislikes with this one.

What exactly is the finish on these slides, is it stainless or some sort of plating? being that I already have the materials needed to blue and on this particular gun only the slide would need blued, can I just blue it or is the factory finish on the slide permanent?

Thank you in advance for your time and attention.

Apparently it is possible, but you would be best served using a formula developed for use with stainless, like Brownell's # 84. See attached link.

I don't like to paint or dip handguns because in my experiences holstering scrapes the coating and then lube and cleaners work their way under the coating via the scratch and then it looks like crap. I'm looking for more of an absorption finish rather than a coating.

It is solid stainless steel, it was the firdst striker fired gun i ever bought, i painted mine black with the Brownells oven cured gun paint , never chipped and the paint is resistant to cleaning Chemicals , ne blemish since i painted it in 1996, very good product.
