S&W 586 Revolver SN?

Does anyone have info on the date that this Serial Number would be?
BHP1xx It is A Smith-Wesson model 586 with A 6 inch barrel, Pre Lock
Trying to come to A purchase price with the current owner.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson lists the BHP prefix as March 1992.

You're a digit shy in the serial number. The format for the S&W serial numbers (ca 1980 to present) is three alphabetic characters followed by four numeric characters.

I point this out only because on another forum a fellow related a story where the serial number was mis-reported due to a light number strike and the gun ended up being confiscated as stolen. Weird set of circumstances and many unexplained occurrences, but the result was clear. Don't know whether yours is just a typo or you really only see three numerals. NJ is not the place to find out if there is a consequence.

You can also call S&W customer service I have done so on several occasions and they will give you the date of manufacture over the phone.
