Default Need a good load for 9MM

OK' I need a load for the 9MM ,Kahr PM9. I have Alliant Power Pistol powder to use but I cany find any info on a low powder load . All the manuals I have only give max loads. I want to load down for the Kahr CCW. Any help would be great.

    Thanks
I will fear no man or beast, because my 45 is on my side, at least!

Low powder loads tend to be specific to your gun, so there is not much published on them.

What cycles my gun well may not cycle yours or may be more than yours needs.

I have a few low powder loads I am still working on. Glock 26, 147gr projectile, Bullseye powder. started with 3.0 gr, which is the recommended starting load. Made a batch of 50 that went with me the next time I went to the range. No malfunctions, so my next test batch was 2.9gr. No malfunctions, so went to 2.8gr. No malfunctions, so went to 2.7gr. Those are sitting in my range bag right now.

Low powder loads are alot of fun. The last batch, 2.7gr, recoiled just slightly more than a 22lr. You can RUN through a magazine with a tight group when you never lose sight of the front sight.

Where are you getting load data that only has max load, the side of the powder jug? Loading manuals should have min and max.

What projectile are you using? I will look it up in my book.

Every one I have seen has starting load and max.

Looking at my Lyman book, you are correct about the terminology. I guess I think of the suggested starting grains as a minimum load.

For some powders, starting loads are below min loads, but for others, you can go quite a bit lower.

You don't say what profile and weight you want load info for. From Hornady 9th:

    115gr RN (1.100"), XTP (1.075"):
    --- 4.8gr 1000fps, 6.7gr max (1250fps)

    124gr RN(1.150"), XTP (1.060"), FMJ-FP (1.050")
    --- 4.3gr 900fps, 5.7gr max (1100fps)

I suppose you could start at the low charge, and if it cycles your pistol work down.

EDIT: Corrected typo from 5.7gr to 6.7gr

Is it true that one should not use handloads for self-defense or is this just a urban legend from Mr. Ayoob?
