Mercer County not offering out of state LTCF.

I stopped in the sheriff's office last week and saw a sign on the door that stated they were no longer issuing LTCF to non residents. What's the deal?

It's not authorized by law to stop. Perhaps a "New Sheriff" in town doesn't understand his or her legal duties?

Contact the Sheriff's Office and ask why not? And what the statutory authority is for such?

Maybe it's just me, but I'd do a hard-copy letter with info copy to the County Commissioners.

5. OUT OF STATE RESIDENTS: Mercer County is not accepting new applications from
out of state residents. We will accept an application for renewal that was issued from
Mercer County. Follow steps 2 & 4. You also need a photo copy of your driver license
(must have your correct address) and a copy of your firearm permit from your state, We
do not make copies in our office.

Unfortunately, this is becoming more and more common. I suspect it will not end until someone sues a sheriff into compliance.

I was planning on doing so, by having my wife apply, but she ended up deciding that she didn't want to get involved in that mess. I'm up for renewal in 2016, so I guess that'll be my opportunity.
